Common Dental Emergencies

Common Dental Emergencies

What is considered a dental emergency?

The most urgent dental emergencies are uncontrolled bleeding, excruciating tooth pain, and teeth that need prompt treatment in order to be saved after being broken or knocked out. Beyond this, there are other situations that may require an emergency visit. These include broken crowns or bridges, loose dental implants, and dental restorations that have fallen out and need replacement. Call our office and we can set up an appointment to help you get the care you need.

Do emergency dentists cost more?

No, emergency dental treatment doesn’t cost any more than other dental treatments at 376 Dental Studio. Providing urgent dental care to patients who need it is simply what we do and we’re happy to be there for you when you need us.

How long can an abscess go untreated?

You should not leave abscesses untreated. A dental abscess is always a sign of a serious tooth infection, which is why they are considered a dental emergency. Not treating a tooth abscess means coping with terrible pain and risking the health of your other teeth, gums, and jawbone. Infection from an abscess can even spread to the bloodstream, brain, and spinal cord, which can be fatal. With prompt treatment, we can save your tooth and help you feel better.

Can a broken crown be repaired?

Broken crowns can often be repaired, but not always. In some cases, a crown can simply be cemented back onto the tooth. In others, the crown is too damaged to be replaced or the remaining tooth structure has sustained damage, changing its shape so the original crown no longer fits. Because a tooth with a broken crown is susceptible to decay, it’s important to get emergency dental care.

What happens when a dental bridge breaks?

When a dental bridge breaks, it can leave the abutment teeth vulnerable to decay and damage, which is why a broken dental bridge is often considered a dental emergency. Depending on the extent of the damage, your bridge may be able to be repaired with bonding material or you may need to have a new bridge fabricated as a replacement.
